Even though, Spain Primera Liga was established several decades later after the other two leagues started their first season, the league, in which many of the world's greatest players such as Ronaldinho, David Beckham, Zinedin Zidane, Robinho, Ronaldo, and Raul play, now became one of the world's three best soccer leagues. Spanish people are world-widely known as people who have extreme zeal, love, and passion for soccer. The leauge has 3 divisions and after each season, the bottom 3 teams of division 1 are replaced with the top 3 teams of division 2. Primera Liga, a.k.a. La Liga, has two of the world's best clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona. They are century-long rivals and the "hatred" between the two clubs' supporters is very intense.
Real Madrid, along with Barcelona, is the most dominant club in La Liga. Since the team was established in 1902, it has won 28 league championships and 8 Europe Champion's League titles. Now, the club put together, arguably, the best line-up in the world and the praise goes to the owner, Florentino Perez, who shows no economy in acquiring the best players, so it's no surprise to hear that the club has the two most expensive players in the world, Zidane and Ronaldo. But despite tons of offensive weapons, including their most recent acquirement David Beckham, that the team has, it shows a great weakness in defense.
FC Barcelona (a.k.a Barca) is the club that has been dominating the league with Real Madrid. Barca and Madrid are great rivals and it's very strange to see a 3rd team, other than Barca or Madrid, winning the league championship. The club has won 16 league championships and also got second place 19 times. Many great players once played for Barca and those include Johanne Cruijf, Hristo Stoichkov, Davor Suker, and recently Luis Figo and Rivaldo.
Even though Valencia is one of the most talented club in the league, it doesn't receive much spotlights because of the two giant monsters named Real Madrid and Barca. In its 84 years of club history, it has won four league titles and three of those were happened during 40s. After the club became the league champ in 70-71season, it hasn't won any since then. But with the great skills and understanding of game displayed by some Argentine players such as Pablo Aimar, Kily Gonzalez, and Roberto Ayala, the club is trying hard to get back those glorious moments of 40s.
Deportivo was first started when a guy named Jose Maria Abalo built the soccer club in Coruna area, the current home of Deportivo. It was officially established in 1906 and has a history of almost 80 years. But despite the long history of the club, it has never won a single Primera Liga championship until they finally won one in 99-00 season. They also won 2 Spanish Cups in 2000 and 2002, so Deportivo is a team that started to play very well recently. The team is mostly consisted of their national products including Tristan, Romero, and Valeron who played key roles for Spain in '02 FIFA WC.
